Collaborative Film & Sound Piece, 2023
Earth Womb is a sound portrait created by artist and sound-filmmaker Tomás R. Arreigota that documents Hollie Thornley’s studio practice and creative process. As part of Arreigota’s ongoing Sound Portraits Project, the piece captures the rhythm, texture and ambience of making through sound and image.
Rather than a traditional documentary, Earth Womb privileges field recordings and observational sound, from the tactile scraping of clay to the rhythmic motions of shaping vessels, alongside visual sequences that frame the studio as a space of movement, thought and material engagement.
Produced in 2023 and presented online as part of the Sound Portraits series, the project explores how intimate sensory detail can convey an artist’s presence and practice beyond conventional documentation.
The film resonates with Hollie’s broader interests in material listening, the acoustic ecology of her studio, and the embodied rhythms of slow making.
